Tulane photoGrowing up in Boise, Idaho, finance and marketing major Brian Thrasher says his childhood could simply be described as â€Å"safe. Indeed, the city has consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in one of the safest states in the country, where kids can still walk to and from school and people still leave their doors unlocked.â€Å"Boise, Idaho, is a safe, welcoming place and I had a loving family who supporting me in all of my creative and academic pursuits,† Thrasher says. â€Å"My Dad worked at companies like HP and Microsoft as a software tester and my mother worked at home managing the house and investing the family’s money. Her expertise in stock investing was a big inspiration in my own pursuit of a finance degree.†This pa st spring, Thrasher graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management degree with a â€Å"self-made emphasis in business and data analytics† that he designed through his course selection. And on the day he and his classmates received their diplomas, Thrasher was the student speaker at their commencement ceremony for Tulane Universitys A. B. Freeman School of Business Class of 2019. We spoke to Thrasher about his experience at the Freeman School and how he’s worked towards becoming a business intelligence analyst at Dell, one of the top tech firms in the world, starting this coming August.Brian Thrasher at the Tulane Freeman School 2019 commencement. Courtesy photoWhat was high school like for you?I attended Renaissance High School in Boise, Idaho. Renaissance is a public charter school primarily for students pursuing the International Baccalaureate diploma. I received my IB diploma after two grueling years of hard work that culminated in just two weeks of all-day test ing. The time I spent preparing for those tests was one of the most stressful periods in my life.I’d say the IB Program taught me many of the skills others wait until college to learn: self-discipline and time-management for sure, but also an important lesson in always moving forward. If one of your tests in IB goes badly, you can’t dwell on it: you have to focus on the one you have the next hour. You can’t affect the past, but you can affect your future. It’s an important lesson when dealing with failure. I’ve maintained all of my IB mindsets as I studied at Tulane. What was moving to New Orleans like for you? When I first came to Tulane, I was not at all familiar with New Orleans or living independently. Sometimes, people ask me why I never studied abroad. I tell them that I’m from Boise – New Orleans is ‘abroad’ enough. New Orleans has a unique culture with its own music, cuisine, customs, and even language to some exten t. I had a lot to learn, and when I first came to Tulane, I was probably more overwhelmed than adventurous. But over time, I became acclimated and started feeling more comfortable venturing beyond Tulane’s campus.I started trying new things: in Boise, I had never even eaten seafood because Idaho is landlocked and my mother is deathly allergic to fish and shellfish. In New Orleans, they eat whatever swims up the floodwater for dinner, so I had to adjust quickly. After four years in NOLA, I know my way around a crawfish. I’ve eaten alligator sausage and turtle soup. I’ve tried squid, crab, and other foods that the old Brian never would’ve wanted to try. New Orleans forced me to adapt, and I’d say I’ve become more adaptable in general as a result. Next time I’m in a new place – for example, when I move outside Austin, Texas, to start my permanent full-time job at Dell – I’ll be quicker to adjust to the local way of l ife. What did you want to be when you first arrived at Tulane and how has that changed?I wanted to be an entrepreneur when I came on campus, which meant I was pursuing the Management major with a specialty in entrepreneurship and also a minor in Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship. By the end of my time at Tulane, I had changed both of those. In high school, I started an LLC with my older brother focused on comedy music and animation and I was interested in getting involved with the startup scene in New Orleans. During my freshman year, I participated in pitch competitions and joined a group of ambitious Tulane seniors who were creating a new business focused on connecting entrepreneurs to feedback and collaborators. Today, I still think entrepreneurship is important and a part of my future, but I came to the conclusion that I would rather learn entrepreneurship on the job, so to speak, than at school. My brother and I have recently relaunched our business, now called Clever Dan. We make comedy music and animated music videos, often about TV. The first one online is about Game of Thrones. I hope to always have a business on the side as I go through life. What are some of the greatest hard skills you’ve acquired at Tulane? The A. B. Freeman School of Business gave me plenty of opportunities to develop hard skills. Over the years, I had hands-on experience in a variety of business activities ranging from forecasting a bank’s financials for 10 years to running ads on Google and Facebook. A few classes stand out to me.First, the Burkenroad Reports are one of the Freeman School of Business’s premier programs. As a Burkenroad student, I was assigned to be a research analyst for a real bank: Home Bancorp (HBCP/NASDAQ). Over the semester, I worked with my group to create a complete forecast for all of Home Bancorp’s financial statements to help us identify our predicted stock price for the next year. We had the amazing opportunity to actually drive to Lafayette and meet with the CEO and CFO of Home Bancorp to advise us on their views of the future of the company. We wrote a report and created a research video.Another unique class I attended was the Darwin Fenner Student Managed Fund. In Darwin Fenner, students manage $3,000,000 of the Tulane endowment. The goal of the class is to invest the money in large-cap stocks to create a portfolio that has higher returns and lower risk than the SP 500. We engaged with dozens of academic papers that try to explain what factors can help beat the market. The problem is that once the papers are released, the big institutions get a hold of the information and that investigated factor is no longer as powerful because it gets priced in. That means we had to use the very latest papers to try to drive our proprietary models. I personally studied the financial sector of the SP 500. Ultimately, I recommended the class buy Fifth Third Bancorp and the Bank of New York Mellon after run ning the whole sector through my own model. The greatest thing about that class is that the students truly make all the buying and selling decisions. Finally, my favorite class was Introduction to Business Analytics. While I took more advanced classes afterward that taught complicated models and coding in R, my favorite analytics class was the first one that dealt with Excel. I really appreciated the way the Freeman School taught me both business analytics tools and a new mindset to approaching problems. Instead of trying to solve problems myself, the business analytics mindset is to find a way to phrase the problem in a way the tool can solve for you. Since then, I’ve been given opportunities to learn machine learning, R and Python, and I even got certified in Tableau visualization. But my favorite class was my first exposure to analytics. After I started, I quickly became close to the professor. He took me under his wing and we started having lunches regularly. I think those lunches will be some of my favorite memories of college. World Health Organization (WHO) Essay

Good health is considered as being one of the most important aspects of quality life. Arguably, it can be said to be one of the propellers of a sound economy. For this reason, many countries and also non-governmental organizations have come up with a number of health organizations so as to promote health issues in different parts of the world. In this case, I will base my analysis on the World Health Organization (WHO). World Health Organization is a United Nations agency that undertakes the responsibilities of coordinating international public health. Besides, it also undertakes part in the prevention and treatment of diseases for instance, Malaria. It was instituted in 1948 and Geneva Switzerland set as its headquarters (Burci Vignes, 2004). The organization took its consent and resources from Health Organization which was one of the agencies of the League of Nations. As per its constitution, its major objective is to ensure that people attain the highest possible level of health. The organization runs a number of progammes and projects which includes; Global Malaria Programme, Prequalification of Medicines Programme, Global Burden of Diseases project, and African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control. It has also carried research and created policy documents such as the PAHO Policy on Research for Health. It should also be noted that, the organization has established partnership with some private partners such as the Institute for Oe World Health and the Malaria Vaccine Initiative, in its research work. In terms of structure, the organization has about 191 UN members. The delegates in the World Health Assembly are usually appointed by the member states, (Burci Vignes, 2004). The WHO Assembly is the ultimate decision making body of the organization. It makes policies as well as approving any proposed programme budget. The organization obtains its finances from the contributions that each and every member party makes towards the activities of this organization. For efficient management, regional offices have been set in different parts in all the continents. Reference List Burci, G. L. Vignes, C. (2004). World Health Organization. Moreover, an executive’s decisions should be clear and organized when utilizing their authority. It allows employees to perform their jobs better because the directives are clear. Woiceshyn explains, a study called Neuro-Cognitive that discusses the relationship between the â€Å"conscious, reasoning mind of the manager, and (subconscious) intuition of a subordinate† (Woiceshyn, 2011, p. 315). The manager is the example of the conscious mind, which is in charge of acquiring knowledge and therefore stores and retrieves information. They then delegate it to subordinates, which are the (subconscious-mind) intuition. If, the manager is unorganized and fails to give proper instructions, it will make the decision- making difficult. However, on the other hand, if the supervisor is logically organized, the subordinates will collect and retrieve knowledge more effectively. How effectively a manger delegates his/her decisions, will ultimately affect employee’s job perfo rmances; thus leadership should be clear and organized. (Woiceshyn 2011). The Life Of Jesus Christ And Paul The Apostle - 3824 Words

The Life of Jesus Christ and Paul the Apostle The Survey of the New Testament course covered a vast amount of material. A person with no knowledge of the Bible could absorb a wealth of sacred information. Jesus Christ and Paul the Apostle covered a great amount of material in the New Testament. Throughout this paper, I discuss the life of Jesus Christ and the life of Paul the Apostle and their extraordinary missions they accomplished that led to faith in Christianity. The Life of Jesus Christ Jesus Christ had a remarkable life with a mission to spread the good word of God. A few of Jesus’ apostles wrote historical gospels of Jesus’ life; some of this information includes His beginning, His teaching, His sacrifice, and His resurrection. In the Beginning The Bible contains scripture and prophecy of Jesus before and after His birth. In the beginning, some of historical topics included His genealogy, His learning, His baptism, His test, and His declaration as the Messiah. Jesus birth Virgin Mary conceived the Son of God by the Holy Spirit while engaged to Joseph the son of David. An angle came to Joseph and explained Mary’s conception through the Holy Spirit; and told him to take Mary as his wife, and he must name the baby boy Jesus. Even though there was no way for Mr. Greenspan to know that Mr. Padgett was being paid off, I believe that he should have found more valuable information through his confirmations by sending them out to more than one person involved in the company. b. Analytical Procedures- According to the case, the analytical procedures Mr. Greenspan performed included: comparing ZZZZ Best’s key financial ratios with industry norms and inspecting key documents pertaining to the jobs contracted. Assuming that these are the only two procedures performed prior to audit planning, I do not think that there were enough analytical procedures performed to identify potential problem areas. There are five steps to be performed when completing analytical procedures: 1. Develop an expectation, 2. Define a significant difference, 3. Compare expectations with recorded amounts, 4. Investigate significant differences, and 5. Document steps. It appears that Mr. Greenspan did not complete all of the necessary procedures and should further his analytical inquiries on ZZZZ Best. A red flag that I noticed, and could have been investigated with appropriate analytical procedures, was the sudden jump in revenues. Under the develop an expectation step in analytical procedures, the auditors/engagement partner could have compared current year account balances to previous year balances (vertical and horizontal analysis) and noticed the rapid increase of revenue from 1984-1987, which would raise questions that might have lead to the discovery of the fraud earlier on. c. Visitation of Restoration Sites- It is hard to elaborate on the limitations of the physical visit to the restoration sites due to the fact that everyone who the auditors made contact with were paid off and part of Minkow’s scheme, and they had no way of knowing. However, I think, like Congressman Lent drew attention to, the auditors could have gathered and investigated the site for permits and questioned workers they came in contact with about what happened to the site for it to need repairs from damage. The auditors may have gotten different answers from different workers, raising a red flag. It also would have been beneficial to make a surprise visit instead of calling ahead. 3. The client receiving payments does not prove the existence of contracts. It may have appeared that ZZZZ Best received payments from customers on paper, but Mr. Greenspan probably should have more thoroughly followed up on those transactions by calling a â€Å"customer† to verify the transaction or looked at bank statements to see where different deposits came from. It seems especially important to pay close attention to receivables considering that there is a high risk associated with a receivables’ existence/occurrence. Seeing as how Minkow devised schemes with third parties, it would not be surprising if someone like Tom Padgett was also posing as a customer (another reason looking at deposits and account numbers would be beneficial). 4. The purpose of predecessor-successor audit communications is to reduce the risk of accepting a client with problems, and to determine whether or not to accept a potential client. The prospective/successor auditor is responsible for initiating contact with the predecessor auditor, as long as the audit client grants its approval to communications. The information that should be obtained from the predecessor auditor includes: information on management’s integrity, disagreements with management on accounting principles, fraud/illegal acts by the client, significant deficiencies and material weaknesses in internal controls, and reasons for the change in auditors (AU Section 315). 5. Yes, the confidentiality agreement that Minkow required Ernst Whinney to sign improperly limited the scope of the ZZZZ Best audit. The stipulation of the confidentiality agreement that stated â€Å"We will not make any follow-up telephone calls to any contractors, insurance companies, the building owner, or other individuals involved in the restoration contract† definitely restricts the auditors from performing certain procedures that are necessary. According to AS 5, â€Å"If there are restrictions on the scope of an engagement, the auditor should withdraw from the engagement or issue a disclaimer of opinion†. Auditors are responsible for gathering enough evidence to support an opinion on the financial statements, and Ernst Whinney should have used their professional judgment to notice that, with the stipulations in the agreement signed, there would not be enough evidence to satisfy the matter of sufficiency. 6. No procedures are required when reviewing a client’s pre-audit but post-year-end earnings press release.
